Coffee Price Update: Why Your Cup Costs More

At Venn, our cafe coffee prices have increased by 30c and our retail coffee bean prices by 10%. As a family-run Perth business that sources, roasts and serves high quality traceable coffee, we want to explain why these changes are necessary.

Our Commitment to Quality

We remain dedicated to providing you with quality specialty coffee—100% Arabica, high-scoring (80+ points). Despite our cost of coffee nearly tripling over the past two years, we've limited our price increases to maintain value while ensuring sustainability.

These cost pressures are being felt by all high quality coffee businesses across Australia.

As we navigate these challenges together, we appreciate our community's continued support of our approach and commitment to quality.

Global Coffee Crisis

Coffee prices are at a 50-year high in 2025, continuing a trend that began in 2020. As one of the world's most traded agricultural commodities, these increases affect everyone in the supply chain—from farmers to you, our valued customers.

The chart below shows the Coffee Commodity Price (known as the "C price") over the past five years. The C price is the global benchmark price for commodity-grade Arabica coffee traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

While specialty coffee like ours commands a premium above this base price due to its superior quality, the C price directly impacts all coffee pricing worldwide. When this baseline rises dramatically as shown in the chart, even the highest quality coffees become more expensive to source, regardless of their premium status.

What's Causing the Increase?

Depleted Stockpiles

Coffee reserves have significantly decreased due to COVID-related supply chain disruptions and severe frost damage in Brazil, which produces 40% of the world's coffee.

Robusta Shortage

Vietnam's drought led to poor Robusta harvests. Though we exclusively use higher-quality Arabica beans, this shortage has increased demand and prices for all coffee varieties.

Market Instability

Two major Brazilian exporters recently filed for bankruptcy after defaulting on loans, further disrupting supply and driving prices upward.

Rising Operational Costs

Increased production expenses, higher shipping costs partially due to the Ukraine conflict, and global inflation have impacted all markets.

How Does This Affect You?

While we've absorbed the majority of these increases, we've had to pass on some of the cost to you. Our cafe coffee prices have increased a modest by 30c and our retail coffee bean prices by approximately 10%. When you consider that the price of coffee beans has increased over 300% over the past 5 years, we feel it's clear that we've done our best to keep our prices as low as possible while maintaining our commitment to quality.
